Over in the UK the paperback edition of Danger Society: The Young Bond Dossier has been published. This is the definitive guide to the Young Bond series by the series’ author Charlie Higson. In addition to in-depth profiles of all characters, cars, etc, you can also read the new short story “A Hard Man to Kill”. The hardcover was previously released in the UK on 29 October 2009.

A release date in the United States is currently unknown, but given that By Royal Command was just released, suspect somewhere around May 28, 2011.

The Enemy Published in Paperback in the UK

Hot on the heels of its recent release in the United States, The Enemy has been released in the UK in paperback form.

Clearly, this cover art is better than the UK hardcover which I must admit is quite terrible in a Double or Die sort of way (so as not to be confused, I’m speaking obviously of the cover only – I’ve yet to find time to read The Enemy, though Double or Die I think ranks as one of or possibly even my favorite of the Young Bonds). There’s something about the US hardcover that I like the best out of all of them so far. Both it and the UK paperback are kind of cliche, but that’s okay.

Pretty interested in checking this book out though. Been playing a ton of Left 4 Dead / Left 4 Dead 2, and well, while I don’t really expect the characters here to run around with shotguns and Molotov cocktails (or a chainsaw…), I do enjoy checking out cool ways of putting down zombies. This is merely an educational exercise so that I can be ready for the inevitable zombie / vampire / “they’re trying to eat me” apocalypse.

Published the same day as By Royal Command is Young Bond’s first adventure in graphic novel form: SilverFin. Artwork was done by Kev Walker who did all the US covers for SilverFin through Hurricane Gold, but oddly didn’t do the new By Royal Command. A pretty fantastic book, you can find a review of it by Matt Weston at CommanderBond.net.

By Royal Command Lands Stateside

Today Charlie Higson’s fifth and (currently) final Young Bond novel, By Royal Command, was published in the United States making the saga complete – well sorta. We still have to wait for Danger Society: The Young Bond Dossier which includes the short story “A Hard Man to Kill”. That should be out in the US around this time next year if Hyperion stays on their current schedule.

Hurricane Gold US Paperback Published

Hurricane Gold, the fourth Young Bond adventure from Charlie Higson has been published yet again in the United States. This time in paperback form with a slightly different cover. This precedes the US launch of By Royal Command and the first Young Bond graphic novel, SilverFin, next month on the 18th.

Catching up on some old news, I’d like to highlight the new By Royal Command cover art for the US hardcover. The most interesting thing about it is that it wasn’t done by Kev Walker who recently redid all the covers in the US in this same style. This cover was done by Owen Richardson. The Dead

Through Twitter our good friend Charlie Higson has begun relaying some news to his fans such as the title for his follow up novel to The Enemy. It’s called The Dead. He’s also got a new television series starting on Thursday called Bellamy’s People. If you’re in the UK be sure to check that out.

Danger Society: The Young Bond Dossier by Charlie Higson has been published in the UK. The book is a definitive guide to the Young Bond series from the first novel, SilverFin (2005) to By Royal Command (2008), the supposed final novel. It comes with the all new short story by Higson “A Hard Man to Kill”.

The companion also includes in-depth profiles of the cars, the locations, the weapons, and the characters etc. The companion also has statistics, maps, photographs, and more illustrations by Kev Walker.

Make sure you get yours. If you consider the US is going to get By Royal Command in 2010 then this companion likely won’t hit these shores till 2011. But who can say for sure.

SilverFin: The Graphic Novel US Cover

The Young Bond Dossier got a first-look scan of the US edition of SilverFin: The Graphic Novel. Pretty much the same as the UK edition with subtle differences. The US “A James Bond Adventure” tagline (seen on other US Young Bond novels) has been added under “SilverFin” and “The Graphic Novel” is now above the type. It replaced the text “Based on….” that included the Young Bond logo. The Young Bond logo is now in the upper left corner. Minor stuff, but still different enough. The biggest difference according to YBD is that the book will come in hardcover form with a paperback to be released at a later date.

As an added bonus, YBD also posted the back cover.

SilverFin: The Graphic Novel was published in the UK on October 2, 2008 by Puffin Books. It’ll be published in the US by Disney-Hyperion in July 2010 just after the fifth and final Young Bond novel, By Royal Command, hits these shores in April.

Young Bond Dossier Extract and Revised Cover

Thanks to the YoungBondDossier, we’re now aware that Puffin has released an extract of the upcoming Danger Society: The Young Bond Dossier. You can download that in PDF form here. It shows off a 9mm Baretta, the dashboard of Bond’s Bentley, and a bio on Count Ugo Carnifax the villian of Blood Fever. You might also notice that they’ve slightly altered the book’s cover. (To see this, go to www.youngbond.com and click “Books”.) Now on the black strip the words “Top Secret” are much larger, color in the title’s logo is now gone and the title itself appears to have dropped “Danger Society”; an interesting move.

All in all, I think it looks great. The Young Bond Dossier will be published in the UK on 29 October and will include the original short story “A Hard Man to Kill” by Charlie Higson. Pre-order from Amazon.co.uk
