Today Charlie Higson’s fifth and (currently) final Young Bond novel, By Royal Command, was published in the United States making the saga complete – well sorta. We still have to wait for Danger Society: The Young Bond Dossier which includes the short story “A Hard Man to Kill”. That should be out in the US around this time next year if Hyperion stays on their current schedule.

Catching up on some old news, I’d like to highlight the new By Royal Command cover art for the US hardcover. The most interesting thing about it is that it wasn’t done by Kev Walker who recently redid all the covers in the US in this same style. This cover was done by Owen Richardson. Over in the UK Young Bond’s fifth adventure was published in paperback. Included is an excerpt from Charlie Higson’s upcoming Young Bond short story “A Hard Man to Kill” which will be included in the non-fiction book Danger Society: The Young Bond Dossier later this year. You can get an excerpt of the excerpt over at the Young Bond Dossier.

Buy By Royal Command at Amazon.co.uk or if you’re in the US and want to wait for the US edition, it’ll likely be released in April 2010 with the Young Bond Dossier following perhaps a year later.

I’ve been gone for the past few days so I’m playing catch up. You should be following Young Bond news at the Young Bond Dossier, but if you haven’t then check out these stories:

New Young Bond story preview in By Royal Command paperback
– It’s really unknown what the story will be as well as the title (though we have guessed), but we’re getting a preview of the upcoming Young Bond short story in the UK paperback edition of By Royal Command due on bookshelves on 28 May.
Kev Walker creating By Royal Command cover – Not Earth shattering news here, but it’s nice to know that Disney Hyperion is again looking to the great Kev Walker to kick out another cool Young Bond cover for us American Fans. It’s likely By Royal Command will be released around April 2010 which is the same timeframe that both Double or Die (April 2008) and Hurricane Gold (April 2009) got. Look for the Young Bond companion to hit US shelves likely in April 2011, but that’s just a guess.

This isn’t much news since I thought it was obvious, but the YoungBondDossier has confirmed with Disney Publishing that By Royal Command is indeed coming to the United States in 2010. This year the US gets reprints of SilverFin and Blood Fever, a paperback first edition of Double or Die and the hardcover first edition of Hurricane Gold. Good year overall for Young Bond in the States.

Art For By Royal Command Paperback Revealed

The official news source for Young Bond news, YoungBondDossier, is offering up an exclusive look at the upcoming paperback edition of Young Bond’s latest release, By Royal Command. It’s the same idea as the hardcover, just of an actual flag with different colors. Personally, I think it’s the best looking paperback cover of all the Young Bond’s thus far.

The paperback will be due out on the 101st birthday of Ian Fleming – 28 May 2009.

Higson's By Royal Command Interview

Over at the Young Bond Dossier, our good friend has interviewed Charlie Higson about the latest Young Bond novel By Royal Command, recently released in the UK on 3 September.

You’ll have to read the interview for yourself to find out what all it discusses. I didn’t read the entire interview because I don’t want to risk spoiling the book. I’m only about half way through.

The Young Bond Dossier today announced that By Royal Command, the most recent James Bond novel from author Charlie Higson will see a release in paperback form in the UK on May 28, 2009 – the 101st Birthday of Ian Fleming.

The hardcover was just recently released there on 3 September. It’ll be quite some time till the book is scheduled for release in the United States. The fourth book in the series, Hurricane Gold is currently slated for release stateside on April 7th. Presumably the fifth – By Royal Command, will be around the same time in 2010.

The fifth novel in Young Bond series, By Royal Command by Charlie Higson has been released today in hardcover form in the UK. If you didn’t pre-order it, you can go ahead and order it from Amazon.co.uk. I pre-ordered, but shipping to the US is quite a lengthy process.

On the horizon is the first Young Bond graphic novel, SilverFin with art by Kev Walker. That’s coming 2 October in the UK. The next release won’t come till April 7, 2009 when Hurricane Gold’s hardcover will be published in the United States. I suspect April 2010 will see the release of By Royal Command in the States. Other than that. Who knows. We’ll have to just wait and see.

The release date for the fifth Young Bond adventure, By Royal Command, has been pushed up a day from September 4th to the 3rd according to a new report by the Young Bond Dossier. It was also reported that Ian Fleming Publications plans something special for the cover art and won’t show it off till the release of the book (something I was actually wondering about yesterday, matter of fact).
