More Higson Published in the US

Published the same day as By Royal Command is Young Bond’s first adventure in graphic novel form: SilverFin. Artwork was done by Kev Walker who did all the US covers for SilverFin through Hurricane Gold, but oddly didn’t do the new By Royal Command. A pretty fantastic book, you can find a review of it by Matt Weston at CommanderBond.net.

Also published earlier was Higson’s (non-Bond, post-Young Bond) novel The Enemy. A sequel to that is coming soon in the UK called The Dead.

SilverFin: The Graphic Novel US Cover

The Young Bond Dossier got a first-look scan of the US edition of SilverFin: The Graphic Novel. Pretty much the same as the UK edition with subtle differences. The US “A James Bond Adventure” tagline (seen on other US Young Bond novels) has been added under “SilverFin” and “The Graphic Novel” is now above the type. It replaced the text “Based on….” that included the Young Bond logo. The Young Bond logo is now in the upper left corner. Minor stuff, but still different enough. The biggest difference according to YBD is that the book will come in hardcover form with a paperback to be released at a later date.

As an added bonus, YBD also posted the back cover.

SilverFin: The Graphic Novel was published in the UK on October 2, 2008 by Puffin Books. It’ll be published in the US by Disney-Hyperion in July 2010 just after the fifth and final Young Bond novel, By Royal Command, hits these shores in April.

I wasn’t so sure this would ever happen, but I guess Young Bond is more popular over here in the states than I thought or maybe Disney just thinks the different type of media will do good. Regardless, the YoungBondDossier reports today that SilverFin: The Graphic Novel which was released in the UK last October will land stateside in July 2010. If that news isn’t good enough, Disney has decided to not only release it as a paperback, but as a hardcover as well. SilverFin: The Graphic Novel, the first book in the Young Bond series, was illustrated by Kev Walker. Further graphic novels have yet to be announced, but several images by Walker have been released – not to mention that Walker has designed the cover for every Young Bond novel in the US (all the recent paperback re-releases and all the hardcovers with the exception of SilverFin).

SilverFin is Back in Graphic Novel Form

SilverFin, the first Young Bond novel by Charlie Higson was released today in the UK in Graphic Novel form. The Kev Walker illustrated book clocks in at 160 pages with approximately 300 color illustrations.

The Young Bond Dossier has a very early first look at SilverFin’s upcoming graphic novel. Coming in at 160 pages with approximately 300 color illustrations, the book won’t be released till 2 October in the UK.

Looks great to me, but I’ve yet to see something of Kev Walker’s that I don’t like. He’s hit the nail on the head pretty much every time.

It seems like we’ve waited forever for this one and it just keeps slipping away. Well, probably to distance itself from the release of Young Bond 5, the SilverFin graphic novel is getting pushed back a month to October 2nd according to the new Ian Fleming Publications site devoted to Fleming’s Centenary.
