T-Force was born out of the chaos of war torn Europe in 1945, and it is no wonder the story reads like a spy thriller: the unit was top secret and originated from a plan belonging to the Naval intelligence officer, Ian Fleming, later the creator of James Bond. The unit was selected from the remnants of the infantry after Normandy and included drivers, sappers, bomb disposal experts, commandos and teams of expert scientists, specialists and engineers. What they discovered would not only shock the allied army but also play a huge role in the opening years of the Cold War.

Nigel West is an editor of the International Journal of Intelligence and Counter-Intelligence and teaches at the Center for Counterintelligence and Security Studies in Alexandria, VA. He’s also written the Historical Dictionary of British Intelligence, Historical Dictionary of Cold War Counterintelligence and Historical Dictionary of International Intelligence. i.e., this guy apparently knows his stuff on the subject so this should be a pretty fascinating read – if you can afford it. The book will retail for 80 bucks, though Amazon currently has a sale going: $67.31. I think that’s a discount.

Until today, I had no idea what the book was. Turns out it’s a fragment of The James Bond Encylopedia by John Cork and Collin Stutz that focuses strictly on Bond’s vehicles. The full book was released last September in the UK and in October in the US. The image on the right is of the book that was included with the DVD.
