Lois Maxwell Dies at 80

A tragic day for Bond fans the world over, Lois Maxwell, age 80, who played Miss Moneypenny in 14 James Bond films died in Australia today. Born February 14, 1927 as Lois Hooker in Ontario, she had known Roger Moore since she was seventeen where they both attended Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA). Later she guest starred on both The Saint and The Persuaders, two shows starring Moore, and the two were later reunited in 1971 for Moore’s first Bond film, Live and Let Die.

Lois Maxwell holds the second longest tenure for any Bond thespian in the films following Desmond Llewellyn who played the role of Q 17 times.

She is, without a doubt in my mind, the definitive Miss Moneypenny. May she rest in peace.
