YoungBond.com Gets a Makeover Too

Filed under: IFP,Young Bond on May 29, 2008 at 1:43 pm

I guess I should have checked out a couple other sites. YoungBond.com has been re-done as well and it looks a lot better than the previous design in my opinion.

If you’re looking for Young Bond news then the best place for that is The Young Bond Dossier. Ian Fleming Publications agrees which is why YBD is featured prominently on their site.

IFP's Website Gets a Makeover

Filed under: IFP on May 29, 2008 at 12:16 am

I don’t know how long this has been going on for, but I noticed it yesterday. Ian Fleming Publications website http://www.ianflemingcentre.com has been upgraded with a whole new look. It now has current news (lets see if they keep it updated) and a store (not really, it just links to Penguin007.com)

Still a new look.

Little advice. Ditch “centre”. It makes no sense to have when you could be at www.ianfleming.com. It’s also shameful that www.ianfleming.com is being cybersquatted by some ridiculous celebrity website advertisement too. Just saying.

Devil May Care Takes #1

Filed under: Devil May Care on May 28, 2008 at 10:10 pm

Sebastian Faulks’ recently released James Bond novel Devil May Care has taken the top selling spot at Amazon.co.uk. Amazon remarked that the novel is the biggest fiction pre-order in the UK for 2008 and said before it’s release “It’s doing extremely well, even with books that are currently available, it’s topping our charts.” Waterstone’s in Piccadilly had similar demand for the book with fans lining up overnight to get their hands on Bond’s latest adventure.

In the United States, the climb to #1 has taken a bit longer. On Amazon it got as high as #6 on the list, while at Barnes & Noble it got to #5.

100 Years Old

Filed under: Centenary,Ian Fleming on May 28, 2008 at 12:01 am

One hundred years ago today Ian Lancaster Fleming was born. On this day we celebrate his life and his greatest legacy with the publication of a new 007 novel, Devil May Care by author Sebastian Faulks and with the publication of the paperback edition of Hurricane Gold by Charlie Higson.

After serving in Naval Intelligence during the Second World War, Fleming bought an estate in Jamaica called Goldeneye where in May 1952 he sat down to write the opening to what he told everyone would be the spy story to end all spy stories. He wrote, “The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino combine together and hit the taste-buds with an acid shock at three in the morning. Then the soul-erosion produced by high gambling – a compost of greed and fear and nervous tension – becomes unbearable and the senses awake and revolt at the smell of it all”. It later became

The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning. Then the soul-erosion produced by high gambling – a compost of greed and fear and nervous tension – becomes unbearable and the senses awake and revolt from it.

The rest is, as they say, history. James Bond was created and published in the first explosive novel, Casino Royale, on April 13, 1953. The book was followed by eleven novels as well as two anthologies housing nine short stories. Fleming also wrote the children’s story, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and two published non-fiction books (The Diamond Smugglers -1957 and Thrilling Cities – 1963) before his death on August 12, 1964 at the age of fifty-six.
