James Bond Encylopedia Included with Quantum

Filed under: Non-fiction Bond,Quantum of Solace on Mar 24, 2009 at 10:49 am

Today Quantum of Solace hit DVD shelves across America and if you’ve been keeping up on the news at CommanderBond.net then you may have noticed that Target had a deal for an “exclusive book” packed in with their Two-Disc Special Edition.

Until today, I had no idea what the book was. Turns out it’s a fragment of The James Bond Encylopedia by John Cork and Collin Stutz that focuses strictly on Bond’s vehicles. The full book was released last September in the UK and in October in the US. The image on the right is of the book that was included with the DVD.

Radio Interview with Benson Online

Filed under: Raymond Benson on Mar 14, 2009 at 2:08 pm

Yesterday former Bond author Raymond Benson did a radio interview where he promoted his latest book Dark Side of the Morgue. He talked about The Union Trilogy, Choice of Weapons, and his methods for writing some of his books; mostly James Bond, but also Splinter Cell and Metal Gear Solid. He claimed that his publisher is currently in a wait-and-see mode and that if Dark Side of the Morgue does okay, he’ll likely write a third.

You can find the full thing here. The interview lasts roughly 10-15 minutes at the very beginning.

The Young Bond series is getting a reboot today in the US. SilverFin and Blood Fever were rereleased today in paperback form with new covers more akin to Double or Die’s successful hardcover edition. Double or Die was also published today in paperback for the first time, but the cover remains the same as the hardcover.

Devil May Wow

Filed under: Devil May Care on Mar 2, 2009 at 1:59 pm

It’s been almost a full year since Devil May Care was published and you may be wondering how it did as far as sales go. Turns out it did really good, well, at least in the UK. According to a new press release by Pearson PLC (Penguin’s owner), Devil May Care is Penguin UK’s fastest selling fiction hardback for their almost 75-year history and according to BookScan ranked #3 overall for the year.

Even in the face of a rough economy, Devil May Care led Penguin to record profits with sales up 7% over 2007.

Dark Side of the Morgue Now Shipping

Filed under: Raymond Benson on Feb 20, 2009 at 2:39 am

Though there’s been a serious drought for literary Bond news this year, I’ve been rather busy lately to keep up with a lot of the goings on. One thing that flew under my radar to an extent is the fact that Raymond Benson’s second Spike Berenger “rock ‘n’ roll hit”, Dark Side of the Morgue, is currently shipping from Amazon.com and is showing up in various bookstores around the country. It was supposed to be published on February 24th.

Anyway, if you’re a fan of Benson (and I hope you are), check it out.

2 Higson Classics Reprinted

Filed under: Charlie Higson on Feb 5, 2009 at 6:00 am

Even though my last post discussed this, I’d like to just throw this up again as a reminder that two of Charlie Higson’s earlier novels, King of the Ants (1992) and Getting Rid of Mister Kitchen (1996) have been reprinted and published again today in the UK by Abacus.

I have a huge list of books still to read, but seeing as I greatly enjoyed the five books I have read of Higson’s, I’ll add these to that list.

Two More Higson Reprints Get Cover Art

Filed under: Charlie Higson on Jan 31, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Ever heard of Full Whack or Happy Now? Well, I hadn’t either till recently. These two books were written in the early-to-mid-90s by Charlie Higson and are being reprinted by publisher Abacus likely due to his success with Young Bond. I’ve mentioned all this before, but now we have cover art for these two.

Full Whack and Happy Now will be released on August 6th in the UK.

Two other Higson reprints are being released on February 5th in the UK. King of the Ants and Getting Rid of Mister Kitchen. See their cover art here.

By Royal Command Coming Stateside in 2010

Filed under: By Royal Command,Young Bond on Jan 31, 2009 at 3:49 pm

This isn’t much news since I thought it was obvious, but the YoungBondDossier has confirmed with Disney Publishing that By Royal Command is indeed coming to the United States in 2010. This year the US gets reprints of SilverFin and Blood Fever, a paperback first edition of Double or Die and the hardcover first edition of Hurricane Gold. Good year overall for Young Bond in the States.

By Royal Command gets published in paperback in the UK on May 28th.
